QUEST accelerates Illinois hospital's goal to meet five-year strategic plan

Situation:

The medical center already had embarked on a five-year strategic plan going to 2012 to enhance quality, achieve top level patient safety goals, and improve patient satisfaction while containing costs and improving efficiency.

Solution:

Became a charter member of Premier’s QUEST: High Performing Hospitals initiative to assist hospitals and healthcare systems attain new levels of performance; participation in the initiative built on a framework of improvement that was already being put into place and accelerated progress.

Result:

"So many of the things that we were doing already were just amplified by QUEST, and the same thing is true on the cost metric as well. We’ve been focusing on that intently for the past three years. Last year, for example, we took out almost $3 million in expenses and have a goal this year of even more. We look good in Premier supply chain metrics. We look good in ClinicalAdvisorTM. We’re really only about a year and three months into the program and we’re well on the way. We’re all being helped by the focus on QUEST goals. If you look at the three metrics we’re focused on, we’re doing very well."
