Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON) partnership
Preventing infections is a struggle for hospitals everywhere.
To strengthen the impact of Premier's offerings (SafetyConnect program, Safety Institute, and SafetySurveillor®), we formed an alliance with the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON), a division of the Duke University Medical Center. DICON works to reduce the rate of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and minimize associated costs.
DICON helps hospitals significantly reduce the rate of HAIs, including:
- Post-surgical infections
- Device-related infections
- Bloodstream infections
- Blood and body fluid exposures for employees
DICON provides tools that empower hospital personnel to reduce HAIs:
- Central venous catheter insertion module
- Care and maintenance of central venous catheter module
- Catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention tool kit
- Hand hygiene compliance educational videos
- Web site, with access to many related publications
Results after utilizing DICON
| Measurement | Percent of Change |
| Ventilator-associated pneumonias | -40% |
| Foley-associated urinary tract infections | -27% |
| Nosocomial blood stream infections | -23% |
