Gina Pugliese has more than 25 years of healthcare safety experience, eight of those as director of safety at the American Hospital Association (AHA). She is the author of more than 120 publications and is a frequent national and international speaker on healthcare safety-related topics. She holds faculty appointments at Rush University College of Nursing and the University of Illinois School of Public Health in Chicago, as well as numerous editorial positions with medical journals. She's currently on the faculty of the International Hospital Epidemiology Training Course co-sponsored by the CDC and SHEA (Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America), having served as co-chair for 16 years. David Huntley has an extensive background in web design and e-commerce management with expertise in CGI graphics, photography, search engine optimization and web analytics.  As the Premier Safety Institute's Web master, he is responsible for the design, functionality and usability of the Safety Web site, online Safety Store, and two electronic newsletters, SafetyShare® and GreenLink®.

Clinical consultant, Premier Safety Institute

Cathie Gosnell has more than 20 years experience in healthcare as a clinician, educator, administrator and consultant. In her role as Chief Nursing Officer for La_Rabida Children's Hospital, she developed and provided oversight to quality, safety, infection control, environmental purchasing, and regulatory compliance programs. She was also responsible for product evaluation, contract development and implementation of safety devices, including Premier's sharps injury prevention portfolio. Prior to working with the Premier Safety Institute, Gosnell directed Premier's Pediatric Product Line in Group Purchasing Services. Gosnell lectures and writes about clinical and safety topics in healthcare.

Laura Botwinick, M.S.

Healthcare consultant, Premier Safety Institute

Laura Botwinick, M.S., has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare quality and safety, having served in various positions at The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources/Joint Commission International, including co-director of the Joint Commission International Center for Patient Safety. She worked with the World Health Organization as a participant in the World Alliance for Patient Safety and was instrumental in creating Patient Safety Solutions which were distributed globally. She served as a Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in 2004-2005. Laura is currently Director of the Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy at the University of Chicago. She is a regular contributor to the Premier Safety Institute’s two electronic newsletters, SafetyShare® and GreenLink®.

Elise M. Handelman, RN, MEdElise M. Handelman, RN, MEd

Occupational and environmental health consultant, Premier Safety Institute

Elise Handelman, a certified occupational health nurse specialist, served for more than 20 years at OSHA as Director of the Office of Occupational Health Nursing where she provided advice and guidance on occupational health in standard setting, public policy, training, and enforcement at the federal level. Elise is a nationally recognized expert and has published numerous articles and presented at national meetings promoting worker safety. Elise provides advice and guidance to the Premier Safety Institute on occupational safety and health issues, including contributions to its safety website.

Kellie McNelis, RN, BSN, BA

Director, environmental purchasing and new product development

Kellie McNelis has more than two decades of experience in healthcare in a variety of administrative and clinical roles, including intensive care clinician and consultant. As part of the Premier Safety Institute team, Kellie is the group purchasing liaison to the Safety Institute for Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP). She serves as co-chair and member of several staff, member and industry EPP-focused groups, including the Practice Greenhealth working groups on healthy purchasing. Kellie also leads environmental purchasing in Premier purchasing-sourcing program and directs the Technology Breakthroughs Program.

David A. Shimberg, CBCP, is Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery manager for Premier’s Corporate Information Technology Services. He assists the Premier Safety Institute with Premier's disaster recovery-related initiatives. David has worked as a BC manager with Bank of America, is past chairman of the Contingency Planning Association of the Carolinas and vice chairman of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) All Hazards Advisory Committee. David has published a number of articles on business continuity and was contributing editor for the revised edition of Open For Business a disaster planning toolkit published by the Institute for Business and Home Safety. David is a frequent lecturer on business continuity and preparedness and has assisted many businesses with their disaster recovery plans.
